Massachusetts Academy, Thursday Evening, Fandom Time

'Movie night.' Things had been relatively quiet at the Massachusetts Academy, and so Angelo had decided that tonight was going to be a 'movie night.'

Which meant, of course, that after a quick run to Videos R' Us (which was not technically a quick run away, but Jono and Ev had made an error in judgment in letting Angelo drive), there was now a stack of horror films on VHS about twenty tall, being precariously balanced in Angelo's arms as they made their way back into the common room of the dormitory building, where the girls were already doing... girly things.

Ugh. The place reeked thickly enough of nail polish and remover that even Jono could smell it. Quite the feat, when you didn't inhale. But at least the girls didn't seem like they were protesting too thoroughly to the boys crashing in and stealing away the television. They'd needed this, thank you.

... Of course, they probably shouldn't have let Jono deal with the popcorn. The microwave was busted, and he'd improvised using his powers, and, well... Microwaveable popcorn apparently wasn't intended to be heated via bio-nuclear psi-furnace. It was everywhere.

Jono shook his head a little, projecting a soft kiss to her cheek.

//Don't be.//

It wasn't her fault. And she'd come back to him. She had nothing to be sorry for.

//You have nothing to feel guilty about, Raven. Nothing.//

She sent a kiss back to him. Even after just a week, she missed that. And speaking of which....

"You left without saying goodbye," she said woefully.

[furnaceface]

//I...//

Oh, hello, pang of unexpected guilt. Jono hadn't really been anticipating you, but he certainly deserved you.

//Have I ever told you how terrible I am, at goodbyes?//

So bad at them that he didn't even attempt them, apparently.

"I wished your last night in Fandom to be special," Raven said. "I felt you go but I thought you would surely come back, but when I went to your room I realized you were gone. That hurt me."

She wasn't going to mince words about that.

[furnaceface]

And when she was being blunt around it like that, Jono wasn't even going to attempt to dance around it with excuses.

//I'm sorry,// he said, instead. //I hadn't intended to hurt you. I'd even thought about going to see you, before I left.//

Which made it sound almost as though he'd deliberately chosen to hurt her, but that wasn't quite right, either.

"But you must have known I would be upset," Raven said. "Is that why you did not wish to see me? I would have hidden it if it would have caused you that much distress. Or is there something else that I did wrong?"

She knew he wouldn't deliberately hurt her, so that made her worry she'd done something to provoke his actions.

[furnaceface]

Jono gave his head a shake, scuffing his foot against the floor awkwardly.

//I'm terrible at goodbyes,// he said, lifting a shoulder a little. //They're always so... final. I couldn't. I wasn't letting you go, I was just moving where I kept my things, more or less... You didn't do anything wrong, luv. This was completely me, being an idiot.//

At least he was also honest about that much.

Raven let out a soft sigh of relief. "Good," she said. Wait, no, that wasn't right, either. "No...I mean I am glad I did not do something to upset you. But I wish you had come to me, or at least warned me."

She shifted her position, moving her hands to catch his face between them. "I do not like goodbyes, either," she said. "And perhaps I would have cried. But I wanted to touch you and hold you and wish you well before you left." Which were all things he already knew, though.

[furnaceface]

He would have nodded, but with his face held in her hands like that, he settled for... well, nuzzling what was left of his cheek against her fingers, mostly. Far better than nodding, anyhow.

//I know,// he sent back, brushing his fingers against hers. //I'll remember, if there's a next time, to come to you before leaving. I just... I'm a plonker, I know.//

A massive one. Yep.

"A plonker, yes," Raven said. She'd heard him use the word before, of course, though she had little idea of the actual meaning but could venture a guess based on the context.

"And now you must make it up to me," she added. Holding her now and letting her cry on his shoulder was more than enough to do so, but she didn't have to mention that, did she?

[furnaceface]

//I must,// he agreed, tilting his head a little. //How do I go about that, luv?//

The sky was the limit, Raven! Reach for the stars!

"Will you get in trouble if I were to stay with you here tonight?" Raven asked, glancing about his room. She did find the clutter that some surrounded themselves with fascinating after the austerity of Azarath, but really, Jono.

"I just do not wish to be alone tonight," she said.

[furnaceface]

//No trouble,// Jono replied, shaking his head a little. //Sean and Emma aren't even here at th'moment, and even if they were, I can't imagine they'd mind. They knew when I came back that I had a girlfriend, after all.//

Hell, Sean was still in love with a human woman, himself. And Emma... Was nosy, and probably already understood that Jono wouldn't take no for an answer.

As for the clutter, it was difficult to make a nasty, dank basement look tidy anyway. So he'd kind of given up in advance.

Jono would hopefully never leave Raven alone down here. She might start to tidy up and he'd never find anything ever again.

"I do not wish to let go of you for quite some time," she said, slipping her arms around his neck. "I want to feel warmth and love, not sorrow."

[furnaceface]

//I have both of those in spades, then.// He could keep her right here. Joni would join them sooner or later, too. Little squeaky black and white cats were excellent for boosting the warmth and love meter, that way. //And you can stay as long as you need.//

He hesitated, and then added, //They're having a bit of a horror marathon upstairs, luv. If Lee's jumping about and squawking gets to you, let me know.//

"Did you wish to rejoin them?" Raven asked. "I did not mean to interrupt."

A horror movie would give her an excuse to cling to her boyfriend. Of course, they wouldn't be able to do what the last horror movie she'd watched with him had led to. At least not upstairs.

[furnaceface]

//I'm fine either way,// Jono replied, shrugging. //I've seen them all more than enough times to count, and everyone is up there. Lee, I think you've met, but it's a bit of a small crowd, otherwise.//

Monet, Angelo, Everett, Penance, Paige...

"I am happy so long as I am with you," Raven said. "I just wish to spend some time not thinking of the past few days." And failure and the sting of Pride.

"I do wish to meet your friends, though it need not be tonight."

//I think tonight, I'd like to just keep you all to myself,// Jono decided. There was nothing the matter with hogging her for the night, was there?

Plus, if he went upstairs again, they would expect him to clean up after the great popcorn massacre.

//If we want to watch something, there's a telly down here, anyhow.//

His basement was a disaster area, but it was an awesome one, thanks.

Nothing wrong with that at all; she was perfectly content not to have to share him with anyone else.

"How long will it take for you to find the television?" she teased, trying for a little levity to banish the feelings of the past few days.

[furnaceface]

//Probably only a hour or two, if you help me dig,// countered Jonothon, even as he made a reach for the remote control that was sitting on his nightstand and flicked the television on.

It was right over there, for the record. Mostly not buried.

Because he'd been playing a lot of Sega, lately. There wasn't really much to do around here when they weren't under immediate threat of being exterminated by sentient gym equipment.

Raven stood up just long enough to take off her cloak and drape it over a chair. She settled back on the bed, scooting back to make herself comfortable for watching. "What do you wish to watch?" she asked.

Something other than horror would probably be for the best, though it did give her an excuse to cling.

//Well, we have cable,// Jono shared. //We could just flip through until we find something interesting.//

Something that they considered interesting back in 1996.

You just know that he was already clicking in the direction of MTV. After two years of Fandom, he was suffering slight withdrawls.

Oh, Jono, Didn't you know the #1 song of 1996 was "Macarena"? Of course that was playing when he flipped to MTV.

Raven stared at the TV. "What kind of music is that?" she asked.

[furnaceface]

He'd been in denial! Sweet, blissful denial!

//That is...// he stared for a moment, and then clicked one more time. Some cooking show. At the moment, even that seemed to one-up the Macarena, thanks. //Some sort of unholy torture song devised by the Spanish in their bid to take over th'world.//

Damn it, 1996. He only loved you for your grunge.
