Room 408, Sunday, Afternoon

When you had the room to yourself and the holiday season was mostly over, there were only so many ways for a bloke to pass the time.

Jono had been up all hours of last night playing on his guitar, for example.

Which meant that today? He was hell-bent on sleeping in. Or, at the very least, hell-bent on laying on his back and staring at the ceiling for as much of the day as humanly possible. It was boring as hell, yes, but no less exciting than staring at the wall had been, yesterday. Perhaps tomorrow, to mix things up a bit, he'd look at the floor some instead.

[How enthralling! Tacked up with one in mind, but open if anyone wants to visit otherwise.]

"Fair enough," Ben decided, noting but not commenting on the change in venue. "Want to go for a walk or something?"

//A walk would be bloody wonderful, mate,// Jonothon agreed. It wasn't often that he would leap at the opportunity to get out and about. But then, he'd been stinking up the room like sulphur again.

... Yes. That was absolutely why he wanted to go for a walk. //How've yer been?//

Ben shrugged a shoulder. "Fine. Dad was out on some kind of diplomatic mission this week, so there wasn't a point to going home."

//Yer celebrate Christmas where yer from, then?// The door made a soft click as Jono pulled it shut behind him. //Or were yer just hoping to take advantage of the break to get back for a bit?//

"The second one," Ben replied. "I haven't been home in a while and Dad gets lonesome."

[furnaceface]

//Yer pretty close to yer father, then?// Jono didn't sound envious. Honest. //I'm sorry that this vacation didn't work out in yer favour, then. Tell me that there was at least some sort of redeeming quality about th'past week, mate?//

No unexpected trips through time? Ben wasn't sending off staggering waves of blackness, so far as Jono could tell, so at least there was that to look up about.

"Only in the last year," Ben admitted. "It's kind of hard to live up to being Luke Skywalker's son." He ran his hand through his hair, searching for a way to change the subject and remembered the package in his hand. "And I've been very productive this week," he said, holding out the gift. "For you."

[furnaceface]

//Yer didn't...// Jono reached for the package tentatively, looking at Ben for a moment before he went right ahead and started to unwrap it.

//Yer did.// Excuse him for a second. Jono had to try not to die of amusement. Which was apparently easier said than done. //It's-- With th'wings! And th'little pointy thing on top!//

This was possibly the greatest gift ever.

Ben grinned. "It'll lift you off the ground, too. Don't pitch yourself off the roof or anything, but...yeah."

//I'm not exactly th'sort to go flinging myself from heights at all, mate,// Jono assured him. //The falling, I don't mind. It's th'landing I'm not particularly fond of.//

He turned the helmet over in his hands for a few moments, studying it. It was impressive. And then, because he absolutely had to even if he knew it would make him look like an absolute idiot, he put it on.

//It doesn't make me look fat, does it?//

Said the guy who was physically incapable of eating.

Ben snickered. "Somehow that hat added three kilos to your ass. I don't know how that happened."

[furnaceface]

//Holiday weight,// Jono decided, making a show of trying to peer over his shoulder at his own rear end. //Dangerous thing. It's all of that turkey, I suppose.//

Again, the turkey he hadn't been eating.

"And the cookies," Ben added helpfully. "You look great. Really."

Ben was a liar.

Jono looked absolutely ridiculous. The bandages under the helmet probably weren't helping that, any.

//It'll probably look better on my shelf than it does on my head,// he decided. //Between my Iron Man action figure and my Fantastic Four bookends.//

Jono was a closeted superhero fanboy. Who knew?

Ben grinned. "I'm glad you like it," he said, looking excited.

[furnaceface]

//And thank yer for it,// Jono replied, looking pleased (and still ridiculous) as he made his way down the hallway. //I suppose here's where I ask yer for yer measurements, so that I can commission a pair of steel trousers?//

Or titanium, or vibranium, or really, really shiny spandex. Jono actually wasn't certain what they were supposed to be.

"Oh, really, you don't have to go to that trouble," Ben laughed.

[furnaceface]

//Says the bloke who make a Thor helmet wot actually gets altitude,// Jono pointed out, looking at him meaningfully from under the headpiece. //How long did yer spend on this, anyhow?//

"A few hours," Ben admitted. "I like tinkering and I don't really get much sleep."

[furnaceface]

//Well, then I'm glad I got to be a fashionable means to facilitate yer insomnia, mate.//

Displacement activities were fun, weren't they?

So much fun! It was a miracle that Ben's tiny droid army hadn't taken over the school at some point.

"Think I could get other people to wear them," he asked with a grin, heading down the stairs, "or would you prefer to be an original?"

How in the world Thor actually managed to see where he was going in this thing was beyond Jono. He pulled the helmet off and stowed it under one armpit for purposes of navigating the stairs.

//Yer know, I think there's something to be said for a hovering Thor army...//

It would be funny.

Ben slanted his eyes at Jono. "Would it be something good?"

[furnaceface]

//Could be useful, if something invades the island again,// Jono noted. //Imagine where those vegetables would be if the locals could all fly.//

Parsnips, nipping at ankles harmlessly. Oh, the horror.

Plus, you know. Still funny.

"I'll have to see if I can convince Arthur to get the reserves to wear them," Ben said.

And what a conversation that would be.
